From the Federal Circuit website:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>UPDATED ARGUMENT RESOURCES<\/strong><\/p><p>The Clerk\u2019s Office has released an updated version of its&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafc.uscourts.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/arguments\/OralArgumentGuide.pdf\">Guide for Oral Argument<\/a>, which incorporates several changes including a revised Courtroom Decorum Policy and new Guidelines for Counsel During Argument. &nbsp;This document and other resources are available on the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafc.uscourts.gov\/argument\/argument-resources\">Argument Resources<\/a>&nbsp;page of the court\u2019s website.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Among other changes, the guide has added a new section VI:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>VI. Guidelines for Counsel During Argument<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following guidelines are provided to assist counsel in making the best use of the allotted time at argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Counsel should not interrupt a judge.<\/li><li>Assume the court is familiar with the facts of the case.<\/li><li>Minimize reading.<\/li><li>Have a copy of the appendix and be familiar with the location of items.<\/li><li>Assume the court is familiar with the briefs and appendix contents.<\/li><li>When raising new authority at argument, provide a copy to opposing counsel ahead of time.<\/li><li>Stop your argument when your time expires unless the court permits you to continue.<\/li><li>Answer questions directly.<\/li><li>Avoid pejoratives.<\/li><li>When referring to specific portions of the appendix, provided accurate page citations.<\/li><li>Do not respond to a question with an unqualified citation to your brief in response to a question<\/li><li>Counsel seated at counsel tables should neither make inappropriate facial gestures nor engage in exaggerated gesticulation.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Circuit has updated its guidelines for oral arguments.
