Prometheus<\/span> that was held at George Washington University last week.\u00a0 Retired Chief Judge Paul Michel of the Federal Circuit was one of the speakers.\u00a0 He is quoted as saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[I] didn&#8217;t think it was a close call at all.\u00a0 I felt that it was easy passage through Section 101.\u00a0 But the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling is attitudinally a throwback to pre-<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Chakrabarty<\/span> cases like <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Gottschalk v. Benson<\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Parker v. Flook<\/span>.\u00a0 It presents a vague standard.\u00a0 How are the more than 7,000 patent examiners and the thousands of patent attorneys and judges going to apply this?\u00a0 It&#8217;s going to be chaos unless the Supreme Court reworks this territory.\u00a0 It&#8217;s most unfortunate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While it is\u00a0too bad that Chief Judge Michel has retired from the CAFC, it is nice that he is now free and willing\u00a0to speak his mind.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The BNA had a nice article summing up the recent roundtable on Mayo v.
